Hanoi Pre-Arrival Declaration: What Travelers Need to Know

Hanoi Pre-Arrival Information

Starting 8 June 2026, Vietnam’s Immigration Department has officially expanded the mandatory online pre-arrival declaration to Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi, bringing the capital in line with Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN), where the system first launched on 15 April 2026.

All international travelers flying into Hanoi must now complete the free digital declaration at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn within 72 hours before arrival and present the generated QR code to immigration officers upon entry.

Here is everything your clients need to know before they fly.

1. Who needs to complete the declaration?

The pre-arrival declaration is mandatory for all foreign passport holders arriving at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi), including:

  • Travelers entering on an e-visa
  • Travelers entering under a visa exemption agreement (including nationals from India, the UK, EU countries, South Korea, Japan, and more)
  • Travelers with a Visa on Arrival (VOA) approval letter
  • Overseas Vietnamese (Viet Kieu) entering with a valid visa
  • Exempt: Vietnamese citizens traveling on a Vietnamese passport and transit passengers who do not pass through immigration.

3. Step-by-step: How to complete the pre-arrival declaration

Hanoi pre-arrival step-by-step guide

The entire process takes approximately 5–10 minutes if you have your passport, visa, and flight details ready.

Before you start, prepare the following:

  • Passport (with at least 6 months validity from arrival date)
  • Passport number, expiry date, full name, date of birth, gender, nationality
  • A working email address (required to receive an OTP verification code)
  • Visa or entry document details: visa type, visa number, issue date, expiry date, and place of issue
  • Flight number and arrival date
  • Accommodation address in Vietnam (hotel name and address)

Step 1: Access the Official Portal

Go to: https://prearrival.immigration.gov.vn/

Click “Create & Submit Pre-arrival Information” and complete the CAPTCHA to begin. Only use this official government portal, the declaration is free of charge. Third-party websites that charge for this service are not authorized.

Step 2: Enter Personal Information

Fill in your personal details exactly as they appear in your passport:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport number and expiry date
  • Phone number (with country code) and email address

Step 3: Enter Visa and Travel Details

In the visa information section, select your visa type from the dropdown (e-visa, visa exemption, temporary residence card, VOA, etc.) and enter your visa number, issue date, expiry date, and place of issue. Then add your travel details: arrival flight number, arrival date, and your accommodation address in Vietnam.

Step 4: Review, Submit, and Save Your QR Code

Review all information carefully; every detail must match your passport and visa exactly, as errors may cause delays at immigration.

Tick the confirmation checkbox and click Submit.

Your QR code is generated instantly and also sent to your email. Screenshot or download the QR code immediately because you will need to present it both at check-in and at the immigration counter at Noi Bai Airport. Save it offline in case you have limited connectivity at the airport.

4. FAQs

Does this replace the visa or e-visa requirement?

No. The pre-arrival declaration is a separate entry step and does not grant permission to enter Vietnam. Travelers who require a visa must still obtain one through the appropriate channel (e-visa, VOA approval letter, or embassy visa) in addition to completing this declaration.

Do children need their own declaration?

Yes. Every traveler, including minors must have their own QR code linked to their individual passport details. Parents and guardians can complete the form on behalf of children.

What if my client arrives without completing the declaration?

Travelers who have not submitted the declaration may face significantly longer processing times at the immigration counter, as officers will need to process them manually. Completing the form in advance is strongly recommended by the Vietnam Immigration Department.

Can one form cover a travel group?

Accompanying travelers can be entered in the same session, but each person must have their own individual QR code.
