Designed by the Spanish architect Salvador Perez Arroyo, the construction of the Quang Ninh Museum began in 2012 and was finished in October 2013. Its design was inspired by the color of coal, the principal mineral resource of Quang Ninh Province.

Quang Ninh Museum consists of three interconnected blocks: a museum, a library, and a convention center. The structure is made of 14,000 square meters of temperature-resistant glass, making it look like a big mirror reflecting Ha Long Bay.
