A tourist speedboat carrying 32 Indian travelers capsized off Hon May Rut, near An Thoi in Phu Quoc, on the afternoon of July 11, 2026. The vessel, registered AG-26751, was returning to An Thoi International Port after a sightseeing trip when it overturned roughly 400 meters from the island, throwing all passengers and crew into the water.
Border guard forces, navy, and coast guard units responded immediately, deploying rescue boats to the scene. All 36 people on board were brought ashore. Of these, 21 survivors were rescued and taken to local hospitals for medical treatment, while 15 people lost their lives in the accident.
Vietnam’s Prime Minister sent condolences to the victims’ families and directed the Ministry of Public Security, local authorities in An Giang province, and health and rescue forces to provide full medical care for survivors, support affected families, and investigate the cause of the accident. Local authorities in Phu Quoc are continuing search and recovery efforts and working with relevant agencies to determine what led to the capsizing.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
